How to run the audit

Open the business’s Google profile in another tab (search its name on Google or Maps, or open the profile manager if you have access) and go through the checks area by area. Tick only what is clearly done. If you're not sure, leave it unticked: those are usually the quickest wins.

The six areas, and why they matter

  • Profile basics. The primary category carries more weight than anything else you can edit. Pick the most specific one that fits.
  • Services and description. Every service customers search for should be listed, so Google can match the profile to those searches.
  • Photos and video. Real, recent photos build trust and show the profile is active.
  • Reviews. Count, rating, recency and replies all count. Our free review request generator gives you every message you need.
  • Posts and activity. A weekly post and answered questions signal a business that's open and paying attention.
  • Website support. A page for each main service and area gives the profile something solid to point to.

What to do with the result

Start with the priority fixes on the right. They are sorted by weight, so the first three usually do more than the next ten. Re-run the audit after a month to see the change. If you offer this to local businesses, the local SEO pricing calculator helps you set a fair monthly fee, and our guide to finding businesses invisible on Google Maps shows where to find clients.

Questions people ask

What is a Google Business Profile audit?

A structured check of everything on a business’s Google profile that affects how it appears on Google Maps and in local search: categories, services, photos, reviews, posts and the website it links to.

What affects ranking on Google Maps the most?

Google says local results are based on relevance, distance and prominence. In practice the primary category, complete services, a steady flow of reviews and regular activity make the biggest difference you can control.

How often should a profile be audited?

Once in full when you start, then a quick check every month: new photos, weekly posts, review replies and any changed hours or services.

Does the score come from Google?

No. The score is our own weighting of 36 practical checks, built from Google’s guidelines and common local SEO practice. It shows where to focus, not an official ranking.
